You have chosen poorly, grasshopper.
If you’ve read this thread you will have seen examples of persons making six figures as a bartender or server. I’m certain you have the aptitude to be a server that remembers orders without writing them down. Unless being a waiter is beneath you, you could realize a 60% raise by switching your career path. I have many friends who went that route until they finished school and bought a home. Some of them now own restaurants, but all of them are homeowners.
It’s all out there, you just have to go for it!

Let rewind to 1999. What was your path forward? Go get a degree and you’ll be upper middle class, and climb the ladder.

More like turns out you were gullible, if you believed it was just POOF, you’re upper middle class.

A degree only shows that you have the ability to be educated in that field of study.

It doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be valuable to an employer in that field, or that said field truly suits you.

In your case, if you’re as erratic in the workplace as you are on this forum, your upward mobility limitation could be found in any mirror.

I can't even begin to say how much I disagree with your analogy. To say a PM has any control over the local governments is really laughable to me. The towns/county have put height restrictions on all building so we don't have those horrible tall hotels like Myrtle or Va Beach, for that we thank them and I have never heard anyone wish for taller buildings except people who build them.

And Tim. If you truly believe rental firms don't have influence on the local politics, you are quite naïve. How can one explain the mini hotels going up?

If you know better and are trying to convince us otherwise, Some of us aren't buying it. I have too much respect for your knowledge to believe the former.

Look at the mini hotels and you find one rental firm and basically 2 builders - not 4 not 8 so maybe you are naive, or assuming.

I still contend that, as things are trending, the restaurant scene in the area will decline. Not conducive to a thriving restaurant industry.

The Outer Banks was built with cottage courts, trailers, and small homes. We don't want or need more hotels. They ruin resort areas. Look at Virginia Beach. You are laying in the shade at 2:00 in the afternoon. It is bad enough to have the mansions going up in all towns except Kitty Hawk. I live between the highways in Nags Head. The restaurants have been overwhelmed for the last two years. Visitors will continue to eat out. That is part of the problem. Large groups of 15 or more fill up restaurants so the small groups wait. Why don't more visitors use the personal chef's? Hotels would be a nuisance.

If restaurants are struggling, I would chalk that up to Covid and the staffing shortages that are problems everywhere, not the lack of hotels.

Sorry, most are not worth $15 per hr. If I order unsweet tea, and ask for sweetener and after I drive off discover that you gave me packets of sugar. So decide to drink without sweet n low only to discover that you gave me sweet tea. My fries are cold and I'm missing a burger. Don't think so. My total is $14.10 so I give you a ten a five and a dime and you hand me 4 quarters and 2 nickles back. After telling me I gave you too much.???

No they are telling you that you are a lousy tipper.

If you are inclined to tip at the drive thru window at a fastfood then indulge yourself.

You kinda left the drive thru thing out but that's ok.

Yes the after I drive off part I assumed was going to cover that. I tip when I dine in.

I never drive through always go inside even though Chick Fila is the only FF place I will eat I prefer to go inside.

Doordash adds an additional cost to the restaurant. I can't support that. I would be willing to pay that fee however, that is not the way it works. I will continue to pick up my take-out orders myself and tip the hands that prepared the meals.

RIGHT! These delivery outfits charge the restaurant 25% or more. Screws the restaurant and ultimately raises prices for everyone.

Holy Smokes! I had always assumed DoorDash would just do like Instacart and pass the fees on to the customer.

We've used Instacart before for groceries. It works well, but is not a good financial move so we reserve that for times when going to the store would create more problems than it solves. My neighbor thought I was crazy for driving to Costco (25 mins away) instead of taking advantage of their "free delivery on $80 orders." I mentioned that she was probably paying a premium for that and she didn't believe that was the case. So, I checked in to it and right on their site they say that Instacart handles the delivery and that prices may not be what they are in stores. Next time I went I compared my receipt to ordering the same via the Costco delivery site and prices were on average 17% more! Since it's impossible to get out of Costco for less than $200 I think I'll continue going there myself.

Pretty sure the only door dash places on the Outer Banks are convenience stores and fast-food places, with Plaza Azteca being the only actual door dash restaurant
