MANCHESTER UNITED have had a bid rejected for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, according to reports.
The Toffees are reportedly holding out for £70million for the 21-year-old centre-back.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are eyeing up a move for Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt.
Elsewhere, manager Erik ten Hag has set the Red Devils three demands in his new contract negotiations.
And one of these will be he will not cede control of transfers, which the new set-up wanted to take out of his hands.

Red Devils 'only offer £45m in all for Jarrad'
Manchester United's initial bids to land Jarrad Branthwaite faces ridicule.
A sum of £35milion was mentioned earlier today and now it's thought the figure would only reach £45m with add-ons.
That compares to Everton's reported valuation of £70m-plus for the England centre-back.
United reportedly agreed personal terms with the 21-year-od yesterday.
But it's thought the Toffees would reject the Red Devils' approach once, as they hope, a club take-over is completed.

14 Devils in disguise?!
Fourteen former Manchester United players have been pictured together on holiday in Malta.
The image, taken on a boat, was shared on social media on Friday afternoon.
JournalistAndy Mittentasked fans to try and name all of them, promising a signed shirt for the winner.
The challenge seemed remarkably difficult given many of the players have not been seen for decades, while some of them were also wearing hats and sunglasses.
Yet that did not stop one individual from getting all 14 spot on within four minutes of the post.
There was a charity match that took place in Malta on Thursday which the ex-players seen in the photo turned out for.
They included TWO Treble winners fromMan Utd's famous 1998/99 season under SirAlex Ferguson.

Red Devils 'launch Leny bid'
Manchester United have reportedly made an opening offer for Lille's £100million-rated Leny Yoro.
That would be a remarkable development - just 24 hours after the Red Devils are said to have agreed terms with Jarrad Branthwaite.
Everton want at least £70m for the 21-year-old.
So to chase two such expensive centre-backs is a huge sign of intent.
But there's massive work to be done for even one of the two to join United.

Utd make major change to pre-season schedule
Manchester United have reduced travelling and cut back on players' off-pitch appearances for their summer tour of the US.
This follows complaints from Erik Ten Hag that last year's gruelling schedule caused their injury crisis.
United sources confirmed to SunSport that in contrast to previous years this summer's trip to theUnited Stateswill prioritise football rather than commercial interests.
United will do all of their training on one site at the University of California campus in Los Angeles despite only playing one game in the city.
They face Arsenal in LA and will then take a trip to San Deigo to face Real Betis before playing Liverpool is South Carolina.
United have also agreed to reduce the commercial demands made on their players, who in previous years would have been asked to make personal appearances for sponsors in each of the cities in which they were playing.
United's itinerary last summer in contrast saw them zig-zag all over theUSA, much to the irritation of Ten Hag and the players.

Jaap attack Lions' mindset
EXCLUSIVE:Jaap Stam claims a “lack of winning mentality” is one reason both England and his native Holland struggle to win major tournaments, writes ALESSANDRO SCHIAVONE.
TheManchester United1999 Treble winner knows both nations have players with “a lot of quality”.
The former centre-back, 52, told SunSport: “If you want to win a tournament, it’s totally different to winning a league because you need to have a certain mentality in your team.
“The Italians have it, the Argentinians have it.England, I don’t know if they have it — they are similar to us!
“Holland is lacking it and that’s why we never won a tournament. We have a lot of quality but not always that mentality to finish it off.
“We Dutch always seem to lose or lack a little bit of that winning mentality at the end.
“Other countries don’t start off well but get through the first phase then they’ve got that mentality within that they want to win everything, they want to kill it.”
